Step Back In Time: 2003 In Music (Part IV)

(Of course there was Kylie and her #1 hit song "Slow" - lately voted as the Sexiest Song ;) It was written by Kylie Minogue, Dan Carey and EmilĂana Torrini for Minogue's 9th studio album, Body Language (2003). The song was released as the album's lead single in late 2003 and reached #1 in Australia, Denmark, Romania and United Kingdom, where it became Minogue's 7th No.1 single. In the United States, "Slow" was released to success on the Billboard dance charts, reaching the top position on the Hot Dance Club Play chart. Additionally, the song earned Kylie her third consecutive Grammy Award nomination in the Best Dance Recording category.

"I'm with You" is a song by Avril Lavigne for her debut album, Let Go which was released as the album's third single. The song was Lavigne's first ballad released as a single. It was the second Lavigne song to be nominated for a Grammy in the categories Song of the Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance at 2004 Grammy Awards. The song reached number one in Mexico, number four on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, number seven in the United Kingdom, number thirteen in Canada, and number one on the Global song chart.

"Crazy in Love" is the debut single by Beyoncé Knowles, featuring rapper and now-husband Jay-Z. Producer Rich Harrison, Knowles and Jay-Z wrote the song for Knowles' debut solo album, Dangerously in Love. It was Beyonce's first #1 single as a solo artist in the United States, peaking on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for eight consecutive weeks. It also topped UK Singles Chart, and reached the top ten on the singles charts of many other countries and achieved multi-platinum certifications in most of those.

And now is my favorite Coldplay song - "Clocks". It was written by all members of the band for their second album, A Rush of Blood to the Head. "Clocks" won Record of the Year at the 2004 Grammy Awards, and, to date, is one of Coldplay's most successful songs. "Clocks" debuted to critical and commercial success, with critics mainly commenting on the song's piano melody. P.S. Congrats to the band on their Brit Award last week for the Best British Group! ;)

And this is the one I really like too: "Bring Me to Life" by Evanescence. It was written by Amy Lee, Ben Moody and David Hodges and produced by Dave Fortman. It also features guest vocals from Paul McCoy. Wind-up released "Bring Me to Life" in 2003 as the lead single from Evanescence's debut studio album, Fallen. It has become a commercial and critical success topping the charts in Australia, United Kingdom and Italy. It charted in the top ten in more than fifteen countries including the United States, Argentina, Germany and New Zealand.

Still on my play lists ;) "Shake Ya Tailfeather" is a single by the rappers Nelly, P. Diddy and Murphy Lee, released in 2003 from the Bad Boys II Soundtrack. It topped the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, giving Nelly his 3rd number one on the chart, P. Diddy's 4th, and Lee's 1st. The song was also included on Lee's debut album, Murphy's Law. The song won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group at the 2004 Awards show.

"White Flag" is a song by Dido, released as the lead single from her second album Life for Rent on 1 September 2003. "White Flag" is the biggest hit of Dido's career. It is considered one of her signature songs, and helped Life for Rent sell over ten million copies worldwide. The single fared very well on the charts around the world, peaking at number one in Australia, Austria, Germany, Italy, and Norway; number two on the Irish Singles Chart. The song reached number two in the UK being kept off the top spot by the UK top selling single of the year, "Where Is the Love?" (NEXT)

"Where Is the Love?" is a song recorded by The Black Eyed Peas for their third album, Elephunk. The single was released as the album's lead single in 2003. It has peaked at number eight in the United States, becoming The Black Eyed Peas' first Top 10 hit, while it peaked at number one in Australia and the United Kingdom.

And we've got to mention Kylie's little sister, Dannii Minogue and her "I Begin to Wonder", a dance-pop song written by Dannii Minogue, Jean-Claude Ades, Dacia Bridges and Olaf Kramolowsky for Dannii's 2003 album Neon Nights. The song was released as the album's second single in March 2003. The single reached the Top20 in multiple countries, and topped the club charts in the United Kingdom. The song debuted on the UK Singles Chart on 15 March 2003 at #2.

And this one takes a special place in this Top Whatever Songs of 2003 by me, cause it's legendary No Doubt an their "It's My Life"! ;) No Doubt recorded a cover version of the song to promote their greatest hits album The Singles 1992–2003. The cover was successful in the United States, reaching number ten on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and remaining on the chart for 28 weeks. It was a success across Europe, reaching the top ten in Italy, Finland, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden and the top 20 in Austria, Belgium, France, and Switzerland. The single reached number seven on the ARIA Singles Chart.

Hope you had fun going back in music-time ;)
